Restaurant Lví Dvůr

About

Welcome to the Lví Dvůr restaurant!
Lví dvůr Restaurant forms part of the Royal Garden at Prague Castle. It is found on the northern edge of the grounds of Prague Castle, in front of Prašný most, at the intersection of Mariánské hradby Street and U Prašného mostu Street. It is a pleasant restaurant in an attractive location with a stunning view of the St. Vitus Cathedral, serving delicious Czech and international cuisine. The romantic interiors of a renaissance building from 1581 bring the spirit of majestic 16th century Prague alive.

Lví dvůr Restaurant is an ideal place for business meetings, corporate parties or good times with family and friends. Thanks to the variability of the space, the restaurant is also suitable for anything from a larger group of people to a romantic dinner for two. Outdoor atrium, summer terrace, beautiful winter garden, lower and upper restaurant and two separate lounges are at our guests’ service. Both the inside and outside terrace look over the castle gardens and offer beautiful views of St. Vitus Cathedral.

Are you looking for a prestigious venue for your business meeting, corporate party, press conference, romantic dinner, wedding reception or celebration or meeting with friends and family? Then the premises of the Lví dvůr restaurant are at your service.

The History

The Renaissance building in which it is located was built by architect Ulrico Aostalli on the site of a wooden court established by Emperor Ferdinand Hapsburg I. Lions, leopards, tigers, and orang-utans were all kept here in the heated pens with enclosures and beside them a high wall with a gallery for spectators. Notorious is the story of the Emperor Rudolph II’s lion named Mohamed, which had an astrological constellation very similar to Rudolf's. And indeed, the emperor Rudolf II died a few days after the death of the lion. In a way, this was the first zoo in Prague, keeping animals until 1740. At the end of the 18th century, though, gardener Adam Ultz opened a tavern here instead. The Renaissance building was converted into a restaurant and garden between 1967 and 1972. Then, with the arrival of President Václav Havel, the building underwent complete reconstruction as part of the reconstruction of Prague Castle and its opening to the public.
